NIELIT 'O' Level – Your Gateway to IT Career
NIELIT's 'O' Level course is equivalent to a Foundation Level Course in Computer Applications. Students can acquire this qualification by undergoing this course and passing the examination conducted by NIELIT. After completion, students can further enroll for the next level — NIELIT 'A' Level.
The course commences in January and July every year and is structured across 2 semesters, covering IT Tools, Web Design, Python Programming, and IoT Applications.

Duration of the Course
⏱️ Course Duration
The duration of 'O' Level (IT) course is 520 learning hours and the minimum period to cover contents is:
- 1Y
After 10+2
Minimum one year for candidates undergoing 'O' Level after completing 10+2.
- 6M
After Graduation
Minimum six months for candidates undergoing 'O' Level after Graduation.
🔬 Practical Sessions
Students have to devote 60% of the total time allotted to each module for practical sessions. Practical assignments have been worked out for each theory module.
Practical Examination Modules:
The Practical examination will be based on the syllabi of M1-R5, M2-R5, M3-R5 and M4-R5 modules of 'O' Level course.

🎓 Who Can Apply?
- 10+2 pass from a recognized board
- ITI Certificate (One Year) after Class 10
- Successful completion of the second year of a Government recognized polytechnic engineering diploma course after Class 10, followed by an accredited 'O' Level course concurrently during the third year of the said polytechnic engineering diploma course

Examination Pattern
📝 Theory Examinations
- Conducted twice a year in January & July by NIELIT HQ Delhi
- Exam centres all over India – student can choose preferred centre
- Full marks for each paper: 100 marks
- Duration of each paper: 3 Hours
- Exam fee: ₹750/- + ₹100/- processing fee per paper
- Registration on NIELIT Student Portal: student.nielit.gov.in
⚙️ Practical Examinations
- One practical paper covering all 4 theory modules (M1-R5 to M4-R5)
- Option for practical exam chosen while filling online form
- Duration of practical exam: 3 Hours
- Practical exam fee: ₹500/-
- Project work (PJ1-R5) is mandatory – no marks but required for pass certificate
- Project completion certificate must be submitted to NIELIT HQ
Assessment & Certification
NIELIT 'O' Level is a government-recognized qualification that opens doors to IT careers and further education. On successful completion, students receive the official O' Level Certificate from NIELIT, valid for government jobs and higher studies.
Register on NIELIT student portal (student.nielit.gov.in) – registration valid for 5 years.
Appear for theory & practical examinations conducted by NIELIT twice a year (Jan & July).
Complete the mandatory project work and submit the completion certificate to NIELIT HQ.
Receive official NIELIT 'O' Level Pass Certificate and advance to 'A' Level or enter the job market.
